Classification of Hazardous Substances

CLP-compliant classification and notification of chemical substances and mixtures

Anyone working with chemical substances and mixtures must first identify and classify them according to their potential hazards to humans and the environment. We offer the appropriate CLP-compliant services from a single source.

On the basis of laboratory results, substances and mixtures are sorted into hazard classes, which reflect a realistic assessment of the hazard. This GHS (Globally Harmonized System) classification is carried out in the EU according to the European CLP regulation ("Regulation on Classification, Labeling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures", 1272/2008/EG).
Substances and mixtures classified as dangerous according to the CLP must be reported to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) no later than one month after they are first placed on the market.
Thanks to many years of experience and comprehensive knowledge in the field of process and chemical safety, we are the right partner for you. We provide advice on questions regarding applicable regulations and obligations and support you in the CLP-based classification of your hazardous substances according to the latest requirements.

Your Benefits

  • Efficient identification of relevant requirements
  • Proof of product conformity with applicable regulations
  • Freedom to focus on your core business
  • Legal compliance

Our Approach

With our one-stop service, our experts support you in the correct classification and notification of your chemical substances and mixtures, keeping you on the safe side, legally, at all times. CLP classification is usually based on available physico-chemical, toxicological and ecotoxicological data. Alternatively, the physical and chemical properties of hazardous substances can be determined in our laboratory, which specializes in environmental and product analysis.
We offer the following services related to the classification of hazardous substances:
  • CLP classification of substances and mixtures
  • Creation of safety data sheets with GHS classification, according to national requirements
  • Support with internal documentation (e.g. operating instructions, labels, hazardous substances register)
  • Classification according to ADR, IMDG, IATA, EWC and regulations for water protection
  • Expert assessments of hazardous substances and dangerous goods labeling
  • Certificates of marketability
  • Laboratory analytics
  • Notification of the classification of hazardous substances to ECHA
  • Poison Center Notification according to CLP Annex VIII
  • Staff training
The GHS (Globally Harmonized System) and the CLP regulation regularly undergo ATP (Adaption to Technical Progress). With the 8th version of the ATP, classification guidelines have also been changed. Dangerous mixtures such as oxidizing liquids and substances with corrosive and irritating effects on eyes and skin have been affected by the new GHS classification. Manufacturers, formulators or importers of chemical substances and mixtures should therefore always keep up to date about the regulations currently valid in the CLP.
