Panel: Digital Product Passports (DPP): Revolutionizing Global Trade and Trust

In an increasingly sustainable and transparent future, the Digital Product Passport (DPP) is emerging as a transformative tool. This panel will explore the role of DPPs in verifying product provenance, enhancing authenticity and building trust across supply chains. By certifying the journey and integrity of products, DPPs offer a breakthrough approach to meeting consumer expectations and regulatory requirements, paving the way for a more sustainable and transparent marketplace. In an increasingly sustainable and transparent future, the Digital Product Passport (DPP) is emerging as a transformative tool. Panel Discussion Participants

Gerassimos Thomas (DG TAXUD, European Commission) delivered the opening keynote, setting the stage for discussions on regulatory alignment. Jorgo Chatzimarkakis (CEO, Hydrogen Europe) moderated the session and led discussions on innovation and sustainability. Other distinguished panelists included Susana Moreira (H2Global Foundation), Ivana Jemelkova (Hydrogen Council), Silke Obst (DG GROW, European Commission), and Prasad Arvind Chaphekar (Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, India).

Key Discussion Points and Their Outcomes

The DPP is a cornerstone of the EU's efforts to promote sustainability by providing essential information on a product's origin, materials, environmental impact and disposal recommendations. During the panel discussion, participants highlighted its potential to bridge fragmented regulatory frameworks, making it easier for manufacturers to comply with multiple regulations while reducing administrative burdens.
The potential role of hydrogen within the DPP framework was also discussed. The concept of a Digital Hydrogen Passport, which could streamline compliance across fragmented regulatory regimes, was presented as a solution to increase transparency and bankability in the hydrogen sector.
Throughout the panel, DEKRA's contribution focused on its expertise in data verification and certification. By ensuring the trustworthiness of the information in the DPP, DEKRA aims to help industries meet their sustainability goals, comply with complex regulatory frameworks and foster innovation.
DEKRA seeks to drive sustainability and innovation in line with the EU's vision for a greener future. This event marks another step towards a more sustainable and transparent global economy, with DEKRA at the forefront of these efforts.
