1) Critical Behaviors

We start by helping you understand the configuration of equipment, tools, procedures, and human action that creates risk exposure. A steering team reviews a representative selection of the site’s incident reports looking for the behaviors critical to safe performance to define what safe interactions look like in your organization.

2) Data

We help you train employee observers to collect information on exposure using your own set of safe work definitions. Trained observers use the data sheet to measure the level of exposure to risk in the workplace. We also work with your team to develop a sampling strategy that captures data on exposure across departments, activities, and shifts.

3) Feedback

Workplace observations are only the start of identifying exposure. After gathering data, observers have informal discussions with their co-workers about the safe and at-risk behaviors they observed, which is essential to understanding what is occurring and why. We work with your team to develop feedback skills and practices that serve as a pathway to open and honest discussions. These dialogues become the platform for effective collaboration in safety and other business objectives.

4) Barrier Removal

Barrier removal uses observation data to target those areas where workers are exposed to risk. We work with your employee teams to help them develop fluency in reading, interpreting, and acting on exposure information. 5) Planning, assessment, implementation and support
