DEKRA extends in China its SASO accreditation scope to RoHS regulations
RoHS regulations will enter into force July 2022 for electrical and electronic devices to be marketed in Saudi Arabia.
DEKRA has extended in China the scope of its accreditation as an approved Certification Body by SASO (the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization) after including the RoHS regulations, which are a set of standards that restrict the use of hazardous and toxic materials in electronic products. These new regulations will enter gradually into force in July 2022. From that date, SASO accredited certification bodies will only be able to issue the required Certificate of Conformity (CoC) for electrical and electronic devices when their scope includes the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) & RoHS regulations, since only one CoC will be expedited for both regulations.
With this scope extension, DEKRA is ready to issue the CoCs once the RoHS regulations come effective. Depending on the type of device, there are different timelines:
Product category | Implementation date |
Small household appliances | 04/07/2022 |
Large household appliances | 02/10/2022 |
Telecom and IT appliances | 31/12/2022 |
Luminaires equipment | 31/03/2023 |
Electric and Electronic tools and equipment | 29/06/2023 |
Toys, entertainment and sports equipment | 27/09/2023 |
Monitoring and control equipment | 26/12/2023 |
DEKRA is a Certification Body for Saudi Arabia in Europe and in China. DEKRA’s scope includes electrical batteries and low voltage electrical devices and equipment, such as cooling appliances -like freezers and refrigerators-, kitchen appliances, electrical components, luminaries and lithium batteries.
Manufacturers interested in selling their products in the Saudi Arabian market must comply with requirements established by SASO to ensure the product’s quality and safety when used within the country. SASO designed the Saudi Product Safety Program (SALEEM), which includes the e-platform certification system, SABER, to apply and process products conformity certificates electronically. Manufacturers can select DEKRA to certify their products through the SABER platform in order to conform to standards and specifications before entering the Saudi Arabian market.
DEKRA also provides additional services in Saudi Arabia, such as Energy Efficiency Registration (EER), Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and IECEE schemes, and operates in other Middle East countries such as UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman, offering testing and certification services as well.
