DEKRA to present full portfolio at Husum Wind 2025

Safe Wind Energy from a Single Source

Sep 02, 2025

DEKRA is presenting its full portfolio of wind energy expertise at the Husum Wind trade fair that will take place in Husum, Germany, from September 16 to 19 (Hall 5, Stand 5B07a). Germany’s largest inspection and testing organization is a single-source provider of expert services, supporting operators throughout the entire life cycle of their installations.

The inspection and testing activities relating to wind energy installations (WEI) are many and varied, and concern a range of technical areas, legal fields and regulations. DEKRA takes a holistic approach, offering operators all tests and expert reports in the form of combined services from a single source. This ensures the safe and economic operation of installations and minimizes the organizational effort involved.
The portfolio focuses on a range of mandatory tests. Periodic inspections (PI) ensure the safety and operability of installations. Before a WEI is connected to the grid, it must undergo final inspection (FI) and acceptance testing (AcT). End of warranty (EOW) testing marks the end of the warranty provided by the installation manufacturer. Condition-oriented inspections are complementary inspections that focus on an installation’s condition with the goal of facilitating maintenance and repair decisions and early damage detection. They are often required to obtain insurance cover or in the event of a change of operator.
In its role as an accredited inspection body, DEKRA provides inspection services for service lifts and pressure vessels in all onshore and offshore wind energy installations. One current challenge for operators is sector coupling – for example, the operation of integrated facilities with hydrogen as an energy source. With its nationwide network of experts, DEKRA provides safety-related services in this context, serving as an accredited inspection body for explosion protection according to the German industrial safety regulations (BetrSichV) and for hydrogen tank pressure. In addition, specialized DEKRA experts have complete knowledge of the containment systems for dangerous goods and hydrogen filling systems in accordance with the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) and the Transportable Pressure Equipment Directive (TPED). DEKRA also inspects electrolyzers before they are commissioned and on a periodic basis. Moreover, the organization offers pre-commissioning testing for PV systems in accordance with Germany’s VdS and VDE electrical safety standards and for battery energy storage systems (BESS).
As a rule, a decision will be taken after 20 years of operation whether to continue operating, modernize or dismantle a wind energy installation. DEKRA experts provide support for this in the form of a further operation report. In a new service, DEKRA experts use the SCADA data recorded to provide timely and reliable statements as to the condition of wind energy installations. Comparative data from other WEIs can also be consulted in order to analyze service life, productivity, wear and faults. If required, DEKRA experts also prepare valuations and damage appraisals.
