Certification Body Now Authorized for Household Appliances, Lighting Products and Electric Toys
DEKRA Expands NOM Certification Services in Mexico
DEKRA has broadened its accreditation in Mexico, now authorized to certify a wide range of household appliances, lighting products and electric toys in accordance with Mexican electrical safety and energy efficiency standards. This expansion builds upon DEKRA’s initial 2024 accreditation for telecommunications products, further solidifying its role in facilitating global market access for manufacturers.
The extended scope encompasses products such as televisions, speakers, headphones, audio amplifiers, light sources, various household appliances (including washing machines, dryers, kitchen machines like grinders, electric knives, blenders, juicers, coffee makers, teapots, egg cookers), personal care devices (like hair dryers, razors, hair cutting machines, curling irons), air conditioners, air purifiers, seasonal decorative items (such as light strings, motorized trees, decorative figures), public lighting luminaires, LED lamps, and fans.
These certifications are conducted in accordance with Mexican standards, including NOM-003, which specifies safety requirements for electrical products, and NMX-J-521, which outlines general safety requirements for household and similar electrical appliances.
The accreditation was granted by the Mexican Accreditation Entity (EMA) and approved by the General Direction of Standards (DGN), the Telecommunications Federal Institute (IFT), and the National Commission for the Efficient Use of Energy (CONUEE).
“Expanding our accreditation allows DEKRA to offer a more comprehensive portfolio of services, including the issuance of the “NOM” Conformity Mark and the CONUEE energy efficiency label”, stated César Valencia, Vice President of Product Certification in Digital & Product Solutions at DEKRA.
In addition to these certification services, DEKRA supports clients in Mexico with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) testing, field testing, and homologation for mobile operators concerning mobile phones, SIM cards, and eSIMs. Furthermore, DEKRA test reports from other locations, such as its laboratory in Sterling, USA, authorized for NOM-208, are accepted according to Mexican regulations and procedures.
DEKRA maintains a strong presence across the Americas, with accreditations to certify electrical and electronic products in countries including Brazil, Chile, and Colombia. Its energy efficiency service scope spans 12 countries: Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, and Panama.
To assist clients in navigating the complexities of national and international product commercialization, DEKRA offers SolutionPRO ONE (formerly TACS4 One), an online platform that digitizes testing and certification processes. This tool streamlines project tracking and management across multiple global initiatives, enhancing efficiency and reducing time-to-market.
