DEKRA, a global leader in testing, inspection and certification (TIC) services, has launched a collaboration with eShard - a recognized provider of cybersecurity tools for testing the resistance of chips, embedded software, and connected products. Through this cooperation, DEKRA is broadening its technical infrastructure to meet the growing demand for security and digital trust at every stage of the supply chain, from semiconductors to devices on the market.

Inside System-on-Chip Security: The Core of Modern Electronics

Semiconductors are the backbone of today’s digital world. From advanced AI accelerators to highly integrated System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions , modern semiconductor technologies enable an optimal balance of performance, power efficiency and compact design. These tiny yet powerful components drive critical functions, secure sensitive data, and make intelligent capabilities possible in devices of every shape and size.
As technology becomes ever more interconnected, safeguarding semiconductor components has never been more relevant to protect users' privacy and security at both the device and network levels. At DEKRA, we are committed to reducing these risks through rigorous semiconductor and SoC cybersecurity evaluations.
To achieve that, DEKRA has inaugurated a new laboratory completely dedicated to cybersecurity and certification services for digital products and semiconductors. Located in Málaga, these facilities expand our capacity to meet the growing global demand for safety and security in this connected world. As we strengthen our capabilities and build a more secure testing journey the integration of advanced testing tools are essential to deliver high-quality cybersecurity testing and evaluations. From conducting side-channel and fault injection attacks, to providing trainings, these tools support our activities as an independent third-party laboratory.
Anders Möller, R&D Cybersecurity Manager at DEKRA, stated: “The new laboratory for cybersecurity testing of semiconductors is a major milestone. Working with eShard enhances our capability of performing high quality and efficient cybersecurity evaluations of semiconductors, supporting manufacturers worldwide in developing trustworthy and compliant connected products in this digital era.
Fabien Bouffard, Hardware Security Sales & Operations Lead at eShard, also emphasized: “We worked side by side to translate that vision into a functional setup. Using our esDynamic platform, we helped design a modular environment combining Side-Channel Analysis (SCA) and Electromagnetic Fault Injection (EMFI). The goal was simple: allow engineers to switch from leakage testing to fault injection in a few clicks, using the same target, the same probes, and the same software interface.

Leading SoCs Cybersecurity Evaluations Through Cutting-Edge Tools

This new laboratory for testing and certifying digital products and semiconductors has been extended with two advanced working stations powered by eShard. The Electromagnetic Fault Injection Workstation includes a pulse generator, an XYZ-axis displacement platform, a control computer, and probes. Our experts use these tools to apply electromagnetic pulses to modify the expected behavior of integrated circuits, allowing them to uncover potential vulnerabilities in the protection mechanisms.
The Side-Channel Attack Workstation includes sensitive measuring probes, a high-end oscilloscope, an XYZ-axis stage and adjacent hardware and software for advanced side-channel attacks. Our SoC team leverages these tools to evaluate if sensitive information in a semiconductor can be extracted, for example cryptographic keys.
Together with experience and knowledge transfer, these tools enhance DEKRA´s testing and certification capacity, reinforcing our commitment to security as an independent third-party laboratory.

Why System-on-Chip Cybersecurity is the Foundation for Secure, Compliant, and Trusted Technology within Devices

Ensuring cybersecurity and digital trust at every stage of the semiconductor product’s lifecycle is crucial, as vulnerabilities can be introduced at any point in the supply chain or during production. Testing and certification of System- on- Chip (SoC) and embedded systems, becomes key to:
Strengthen Device Security
For manufacturers, it is a priority to protect their products and safeguard their devices against emerging threats.
Comply with Standards and Regulations
