Always on the go and always in motion
Get to know Michael, Product Manager at DEKRA Electrical Engineering and E-Mobility.
From electrician to e-mobility expert
If you visit his LinkedIn profile and click on his profile picture, you will see a visibly cheerful man in a green DEKRA jacket standing between two electric charging stations, his arms outstretched, his hands resting on the charging stations. This is Michael's world today. He has been here for 17 years. As a trained electrician and master electrician, he joined the Kassel branch in 2008 – and initially had nothing to do with the future-oriented topic of e-mobility, which was still in its infancy. But his very first project at DEKRA immediately called him to higher things, namely to the church, or more precisely to the Protestant Regional Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck. On its behalf, he was tasked with inspecting all fixed electrical installations and portable electrical equipment in ten church districts.
That was a long time ago. Today, Michael is Product Manager for Electrical Engineering and E-Mobility at DEKRA. How he got there has a lot to do with the growing importance of e-mobility and his enthusiasm for everything that rolls. Before joining DEKRA, Michael worked for a medium-sized transport company.
For me, this job is both a career and a hobby. The DEKRA ‘D’ has become a part of me. I am passionate about what I do.
Michael, Product Manager Electrical Engineering and E-Mobility
Committed to a green future
As a DEKRA specialist, he now keeps an eye on the commissioning of new charging stations. He and his team check newly installed charging stations throughout Germany on behalf of customers to ensure they have been installed correctly and approve them for commissioning. This is a Herculean task when you consider that the electric car charging network in Germany is set to grow by more than 20 percent in 2024. So it's hardly surprising that Michael covers well over 50,000 kilometers a year on his field assignments.
More than just e-mobility: a profession that became a passion
But e-mobility is just one area of his work, because Michael is and can do so much more at DEKRA. As the electrical engineer responsible for testing, expert reports, and industry, he contributes his electrical engineering expertise and experience in standardization issues, court hearings, and as a technical consultant. Expert, consultant, testing specialist, mentor, knowledge provider, networker... Do these terms cover everything Michael does and what drives him? Probably not. But one sentence sums it up perfectly: “For me, my job is my calling and my hobby. The DEKRA D has become a part of me. I am passionate about what I do.”
Commitment far beyond e-mobility
Oh yes, and then there is Michael the private individual, father of two grown-up children and an enthusiastic railway fan – both on a scale of 1:87 and on a scale of 1:1. He is a passionate model railway collector and can regularly be found along the Deutsche Bahn rail network. As if that weren't enough, there's also Michael the local councilor, Michael the election worker, and Michael the church council member, responsible – how could it be otherwise – for the safety of the facilities and buildings in his parish. Michael – a face at DEKRA, constantly on the go and always on the move.
