Inspecting elevator shafts with a critical eye

We all know the scene from action movies: in pursuit of the bad guys, the hero looks down into the yawning depths of an elevator shaft. For cinema audiences, it's a spine-tingling moment; for Mojtaba, it's routine. No, not chasing villains, but looking into elevator shafts and at everything to do with conveyor technology. He is an expert in lifting and conveyor technology (elevators and escalators) at the DEKRA head office in Stuttgart. As part of a five-person team, he has a keen eye and the know-how for elevators in and around Stuttgart.

High-speed runners: High-altitude adventure in Tehran

The 35-year-old had his most spectacular view to date in an elevator shaft in Tehran. The building he was working in was 33 floors high. At this height, so-called high-speed elevators are used. They travel at around four meters per second. “In Stuttgart, there are hardly any buildings where high-speed elevators are used,” says Mojtaba. “Here, they usually go up and down at around one meter per second.” In the Iranian capital, he was employed at the Engineering Support Center (ESC) in the branch of a well-known elevator company.

Expertise and experience for starting a career in Stuttgart

Mojtaba knew early on that he wanted to develop his professional skills and gain international experience. So the trained mechanical engineer set his sights on Germany. He left his home country in 2020 and headed for Stuttgart with a visa for skilled workers looking for employment. Thanks to his recognized mechanical engineering degree and six years of professional experience, it didn't take long for him to find a job at a small elevator company.

I like to work in a structured manner and with a high degree of accuracy—that just suits DEKRA.

Elevator inspection at the highest level: Mojtaba on the job as an expert at DEKRA

In 2022, he joined DEKRA as an expert: “It was a whole new world for me – with a lot of responsibility, but also a lot of meaning. I like to work in a structured way and with a high degree of accuracy – that just fits with DEKRA.” Together with his team, he is responsible for regular inspections and technical condition assessments of elevators.

Between language, nature, and friendship

He also has a keen eye for the German language. He learned German while still in Iran – prerequisite for a skilled worker visa. Once here, he worked hard to improve his skills in intensive courses. Today, he can chat easily about anything, whether with friends or in the DEKRA team. The photography and music lover enjoys spending his free time with friends and hiking – preferably in the mountains or in the forest.

100 Years of DEKRA – Together toward a secure future

Mojtaba: “100 years – that's an impressive number. It shows that DEKRA has achieved a great deal and is a reliable partner when it comes to safety. I've only been here a short time, but I'm delighted to be part of this history. I want to show what we really do at DEKRA and how varied our work is.”
