DEKRA develops climate risk assessments for organizations
Analyzing and Addressing Climate Risks
May 27, 2026The dangers presented by climate risks and extreme weather situations are increasing, affecting buildings, business processes, and infrastructure. Today, it is essential that companies and organizations implement climate change adaptation actions and strategies, say DEKRA experts. DEKRA has now developed a climate risk assessment (CRA) to analyze and evaluate the most significant climate risks.
DEKRA’s building & infrastructure and process experts have developed a service that examines ten of the most significant climate risks: flooding, storms, heat waves, clay swelling and shrinking, forest fires, landslides, submersion and marine erosion, hail. The experts gauge a site’s exposure to these hazards, including IPCC climate change scenarios, assess the vulnerability of buildings and processes to these risks, and suggest adaptation strategies.
Based on climate forecasts, document review, interviews and a structured on-site assessment by DEKRA’s experts, this refined method identifies the weaknesses of buildings, organization, and activities and prioritizes critical risks: Where can risks be mitigated, and where and how is the climate change adaptation objective achievable? The goal is to provide operators and owners with decision-making aids that enable them to increase the resilience of the organization in the long term, thereby sustaining their processes and business operations.
In this way, organizations can satisfy the growing requirements in respect of climate risks such as the EU Taxonomy, the CSRD, and national climate change adaptation strategies and regulations that are forcing companies to act. The climate risk assessment (CRA) also satisfies the new requirements for ISO management systems that prescribe a climate vulnerability risk analysis as part of certification and recertification procedures.
In France, the service has already attracted the attention of major players who manage large real estate portfolios: For example, for SNCF Gares & Connexions, DEKRA has recently confirmed its first contract, which involves a climate risk assessment for the Tours train station.
