Job Market Report 2018: IT specialists lead the field

DEKRA Job Market Report 2018

IT specialists are in demand on the job market like never before. These were the findings of the DEKRA Job Market Report 2018, for which 12,966 job offers were evaluated. Most in demand after software developers and programmers were electronics engineers, health care workers and nursing staff, business administrators as well as production assistants and sales staff.

The IT sector, which alone accounted for 13.1 percent of all vacancies, is also clamoring for IT consultants and IT analysts. They are presumably profiting from the new technologies being employed to optimize processes – something that is currently right at the top of the agenda for companies. System administrators can also choose from significantly more job offers.

While the demand for engineers is at the same high level, the situation is somewhat more relaxed, although the demand for non-academic technical professions continues to peak. "Electronics technicians have been the most sought-after specialists for years, and mechatronics technicians are also registering a record high within their professional field," explains Jörg Mannsperger, Managing Director of the DEKRA Akademie.

There continues to be a strong demand for staff in the areas of sales consultancy and distribution, for example, in such areas as customer care staff, sales staff and sales managers. As regards call center agents, a profound transformation of this area of activity has been noticeably taking place. Companies are increasingly contacting customers by means of new technologies such as chatbots, artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality.

In addition to an overview of the development of professions and areas of activity, the DEKRA Job Market Report also offers in-depth analyses of professionals in IT security and facility management. Moreover, the study contains a supplementary report on the topic of "New Work in Logistics" and various expert comments.
