Children's toys: Warning information often disposed of along with the packaging

Children's toys:

Many parents frequently fail to read the instructions for use of toys or leisure products and thus also the safety instructions contained therein. These are the findings of a representative survey conducted by forsa on behalf of DEKRA. For example, just slightly over half (56 percent) of those interviewed always read the instructions after purchasing, for example, a ride-on car or garden trampoline. DEKRA experts recommend that parents pay special attention to studying the instructions for use of children's products. The instructions are a safety relevant component of the product: They provide information on putting into operation, use, age range and materials. Two thirds of parents (64 percent) expressed concern that too many harmful substances could be contained in toys. Although more than half (57 percent) deemed the laws and regulations on toy safety as sufficient, a 78 percent majority were in favor of more checks at manufacturing plants and trade outlets.
