A partner-like collaboration is also at the core of our endeavours to pursue international expansion. Whether this takes the form of a franchise system or involves setting up our own branches - the systematic set-up of the DEKRA network beyond Germany‘s national frontiers is always in harmony with the regional conditions. One example would be North Africa.
The need for individual mobility is growing in Morocco too, and car ownership is rising rapidly. What‘s more, the car is increasingly developing into the powerful motor driving the Moroccan economy. In this regard the government of the country is not only energetically pursuing a policy to establish its own automotive industry, but is also tackling the urgent demands for optimum road safety and sustainable protection of the climate.
“The legislature introduced the first exhaust regulations some years ago. It generated a tendering process for two licences for national vehicle inspection networks. The French DEKRA Automotive S.A. was one of the companies the tenders were awarded to”, proudly reports Xavier Landouer, Chairman of the Board of Management the newly established DEKRA Maroc S.A.
In this respect DEKRA Maroc S.A. is truly undertaking pioneering work. It has been tasked to set up a national network of 37 test centres as soon as possible – focusing on the urban centres of Casablanca and Rabat as well as the regions of Tanger, Marrakech and Oujda. The market generates about two million inspections annually. DEKRA is facing an enormous challenge, but we have the pioneering spirit to solve the problem. We’ve proven this in other countries. In future, cars and trucks in Morocco – closely based on European standards – will undergo inspection to ascertain their roadworthiness and to ensure that they meet exhaust emissions limits.
